Some years back I had the opportunity to grow my company, or stay a small shop, and I chose the latter for many of the same reasons you mention. I've funded several (albeit small) Kiva loans, set up an online community for landmine removal, and one for a micro lending site in Kenya. Do I miss the excitement of speaking and travel...sometimes, but not often. Lean on your friends, ignore those who haven't done it themselves. If you're not working for your self, you just don't understand.
