Fun with numbers

February 6th, 2007 Posted in Building Community

MySpace by the numbers:

  •  38 billion page views per month
  • 320,000 profiles were created today

Dogster.com (+ Catster.com ?):

  • 250,000 registered members

Something tells me that we can stop having the "is this a fad" conversation about social networking. The question is clearly firmly planted in the "how do we make a relevant, successful social network" arena.

(Yes, I know this isn’t really news, per se. But I still find it incredibly interesting how many non-Web 2.0 types still think MySpace and the social networking phenom will die off)

  • couting your influencers is also a key piece of defining the community. my post about it:

  • Yeah, kind of surprising given the success of a lot of niche social networks.

I think people are just waiting for the "fracture" of some of the larger social networks, or when people start to shift to the niche networks to find value (for example, will people shift from myspace-facebook-linkedin as their lives progress).
