I don’t know exactly how the photographer pulled this photo off (photoshop? coloring a IR photo? just great scene selection?) but it’s an amazing photo.

Having lived in Japan for three years, I tend to think it's mostly good scene selection (and probably a good camera).

Particularly in spring when the cherry trees are blooming like that, you get an interesting filtered light that does sort of grey almost everything out.
