What if you just hired better?

July 14th, 2009 Posted in Business Strategy

You don’t have to agree with everything Seth Matt says to make following his posts worthwhile. Here’s proof: Actually, HERE is proof… (sorry Matt for attributing your statement to Seth. Copied and pasted wrong then followed up a few days later. Never a good thing, apparently!)

So maybe instead of getting your company on twitter, paying marketers to mention you are on twitter, and paying people to blog about your company, forget all that and just make awesome stuff that gets people excited about your products, hire people that represent the company well, and when your stuff is so awesome that friends share it with other friends, you may not even need “social media marketing” after all.

So simple, so obvious, yet so genius.

  • I guess it's a possibility. Let's pretend that you hired better people and have great products. How long will it take for these 'better' people to spread the word? Will you have to hire more just so news would travel fast? I mean sure it's great to have good people and board etc etc, but if you want news to travel fast, I don't think it will be as good. But that's just me.
  • Hey there Jake...turns out this isn't a Godinism. It came from Matt Haughey:

Still good, though, particularly for those of us who also work around the concept of employer branding and employee engagement.
