  • Milwaukee’s Best Light puts together a pretty cheesy campaign based on vdeo and YouTube. (More info at: http://www.milbestlight.com/cannon.aspx). Why do brand managers feel like they need to script and polish everything they do, even the “user generated”

Help me be a SXSW speaker

September 18th, 2006 | Comments | Posted in Business Strategy

I need your help!

I’ve volunteered to put together a panel discussion at SXSW next year, and the way the panels are being chosen this year is at least partially based on community voting. Head over the panel picker, select the “Community” category and scroll down to my entry. Here’s the panel description:

Community Ecology: Finding Balance When Working with Fan Groups
The
community ecosystem is that amazing social environment created when
companies and consumers work. Like any ecosystem it can be fragile if
not handled correctly. This session will look at what companies like
LEGO, Macromedia, and March of Dimes have done right…and wrong. We’ll
also look at how to best nurture that ecosystem in order to avoid fan
burnout, maintain balance between community and company goals, and
drive business success.

Thanks!

Gotta love Blingo

September 14th, 2006 | Comments | Posted in Business Strategy

Seriously, how could you not like getting cool stuff for free for free for doing nearly nothing?

I just won (actually one of my connections won) a $50 Visa check card through Blingo. If you’ve not been paying attention when I’ve talked about Blingo in the past, it’s a search engine that uses the Google API to conduct searches. So it’s Google + prizes. It’s not a scam – this is prize #19 for me… I’ve won everything from movie tickets to a Sony PSP.

If you haven’t signed up, sign up now under me and we both win if you do.

Attention Community Managers…

September 14th, 2006 | Comments | Posted in Building Community

When I was on the front lines of community interaction with LEGO, I started an invite-only, non-competing mailing list for community managers and people who put their hands on community interaction on a daily basis. The group has always remained small and low-traffic, but I’d like to grow it a bit more.

If you’re interested in joining, drop me an email (jake@biggu.com) and let me know why you want to join.

MySpace Login Broken

Remember when I mentioned that MySpace was facing a serious problem with long-term surviability? Here’s a screenshot I received after I logged in today… yikes.

Yes, that’s right, the error message says: "DisabledErrorMessage 9/13/2006"
