Will Algorithms Make Human Editors Obsolete? Not If Journalists Collaborate – Publishing 2.0

“Will algorithms replace human editors on the web? It’s a bogeyman question on one level, but ask any news site about the percentage of traffic they get from search engines — and what the trend looks like — and you’ll realize that algorithms are increasingly deciding what we pay attention to, what is important, what is relevant.” – The problem here is that traditional media has largely thrown up its hands in the face of Digg, et. al. rather than employing the smartest and brightest inside and outside their industry to come up with new, better, more interesting ideas that define their role in this new world.

MGH Word of Mouth » Blog Archive » NO NEED TO BLOCK YOUTUBE CONTENT BECAUSE OF COPYRIGHT

“But, I think it is about time that they stop worrying so much about their content being streamed through other popular websites such as YouTube. For example,  Last week’s episode of Saturday Night Live, which featured Tina Fey as Gov. Sarah Palin was a huge hit online, but within hours of upload, NBC’s attorneys were issuing take-down notices to YouTube.”

“Though Scott Monty has only been on the job for a few months, he faces a daunting task as Ford Motor Company’s new digital/multimedia communications manager: He must take the auto maker’s social media programs — that have not gone much beyond a 2006 video campaign called “Bold moves” and shareable press releases called “digital snippets” — and dramatically expand them across the globe.”

Smule is Sonic Media

This iPhone application seems to be silly and more than a bit pointless on its surface.
